I wrote\u00a0the first draft of Looking for Redfeather <\/a>in November, 2007,\u00a0during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).\u00a0 At the time I was on the road promoting\u00a0 Star-Crossed,<\/em>\u00a0my first published novel — historical fiction that that the New York Public Library chose to be among the books for the Teen Age – 2007.\u00a0 I needed a break from the 18th century, so I wrote a\u00a0contemporary, post 9\/11 road trip novel about three runaway teens.\u00a0\u00a0The characters are a composite of kids, both real and imagined.<\/p>\n

The rewriting and publishing\u00a0of Looking for Redfeather<\/em> took six years.\u00a0\u00a0Which, incidentally, is how long\u00a0Star-Crossed<\/em> took me to write and get published.\u00a0 Laura Rennert, my agent for Star-Crossed<\/em> landed me a contract with Alfred A. Knopf.\u00a0 James Schiavone, my agent for Looking for Redfeather<\/em> was unable to place it, and so I’ve published it under\u00a0Fiction House, Ltd<\/a>. — my own\u00a0company.\u00a0\u00a0 Albert Roberts designed\u00a0the fabulous\u00a0cover, and\u00a0Create Space\u00a0provided editorial, printing, and distribution services.\u00a0 Currently I’m looking into Lightening Source because they distribute to libraries and academic institutions.\u00a0 It’s time consuming, because I’m also writing two other novels and working on the stage play adaptation of Looking for Redfeather<\/em>.\u00a0 But that’s the publishing world these days.\u00a0 Hey, who needs sleep anyway?<\/p>\n

At least my characters are alive.\u00a0 Long live Ramie, Chas, and LaRoux, the three runaway teens\u00a0who are Looking for Redfeather.\u00a0 <\/a><\/p>\n
