Three runaway teens, a “borrowed” Cadillac Eldorado, and an elusive Apache named Redfeather…<\/p>\n

I’ve been published traditionally, by Alfred A. Knopf (Random House) and by small publishers Pruett and Fireship Press.\u00a0 Now I’m publishing my own book under the imprint of FICTION HOUSE, LTD. —\u00a0– using CreateSpace for my editorial and printing services.\u00a0 Looking for Redfeather<\/em> will be published this summer in trade paperback and electronic editions.\u00a0\u00a0 Read the first chapter.<\/a><\/p>\n

Most of my friends\u00a0and readers are familiar with my nautical historical fiction; Star-Crossed<\/em>, which led to Barbados Bound<\/em> and Surgeon’s Mate<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 There’s nothing nautical about Looking for Redfeather<\/em> (although Chas and Ramie do go swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, off Padre Island.)\u00a0\u00a0Historical elements and cultural references are woven into the contemporary story,\u00a0set in the American West.<\/p>\n

I wrote the first draft in November, 2007, during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) when I was back east promoting Star-Crossed<\/em> (Knopf; 2006).\u00a0 I workshopped it with the Steamboat Writers Group, a fellowship of Colorado writers, with good feedback.\u00a0 Presently, as the manuscript is being edited, I’m working on the play version.<\/p>\n

If you liked Kerouac’s On the Road<\/em>, you might like Collison’s Looking for Redfeather<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0It’s a different age but it’s still a road trip.\u00a0 A coming of age.<\/p>\n
