Authors promoting authors, that’s the way we roll.\u00a0 Today Deborah Swift<\/a>, author of the newly released novel,\u00a0 The\u00a0Gilded Lily<\/em> (companion to The Lady’s Slipper<\/em>)\u00a0\u00a0hosted my post about what inspired me to write Barbados Bound\u00a0<\/a>on her blog Royalty Free Fiction<\/a>.\u00a0 She has a very nicely done video trailer for her new release, check it out<\/a>!\u00a0 I’m looking forward to meeting Deborah Swift and so many other authors,\u00a0 bloggers, publishers, agents, and discerning readers in London at the Historical Novel Conference<\/a>\u00a0— just two weeks away!<\/p>\n

This past week I’ve been working on the introduction and overview\u00a0to the nautical historical fiction\u00a0panel discussion on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 11:50.\u00a0\u00a0 This brief intro has resulted in the purchase of four books: The Wing-and-Wing<\/em> by James Fenimore Cooper (Heart of Oak Sea Classics) James Fenimore Cooper and the Development of American Sea Fiction<\/em>,\u00a0by Thomas Philbrick, The works of Edouard Corbiere<\/em>, and American Sea Writing; a literary anthology<\/em>, ed. Peter Neill and Nathaniel Philbrick.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What all of these early writers of nautical historical fiction (and others, such as Marryat, Melville and Conrad) have in common is they all were sailors at some point in their lives.\u00a0 Going to sea changes you, I can attest to that.<\/p>\n
