The great thing about being a writer is your office can be anywhere.<\/p>\n

This Sunday afternoon Bob and I took a picnic dinner and a bottle of wine to Spencer\u00a0 Beach.\u00a0\u00a0 I took my writing notebook, I thought the beach would be a very\u00a0creative\u00a0environment to work.\u00a0 \u00a0The sound of the water lapping, the smell of the kiawe trees, the dry fountain grass, very\u00a0\u00a0seductive.\u00a0\u00a0Oh, look there’s a sea turtle!\u00a0 Iwatched it, entranced, for long minutes with my notebook in my lap, glass of wine in my hand.\u00a0 A happy hour later I had only written two paragraphs!\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0That’s all I had, my mind was pleasantly numbed, I was content.\u00a0 Too content to explore my discontent.<\/p>\n

It’s hard to write when you’re happy.\u00a0 You’re reluctant to travel back in time when you’re living fully in this moment and you don’t want to budge.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow, Monday morning,\u00a0I’ll\u00a0go to my desk, I’ll turn on the kitchen timer and I’ll write for two hours at a stretch.\u00a0 The words will come as sure as the waves lap the shore.\u00a0 It’s all there in that\u00a0dark, fathomless\u00a0subconscious, that time eddy of imagination.\u00a0\u00a0Just need to sit down in the chair, quiet the mind and\u00a0hold the pen against the page.\u00a0\u00a0Magical —\u00a0works like an Ouija board! \u00a0 But it\u00a0doesn’t\u00a0work at the beach.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
